2-D shapes

Primary 1Geometry1S2

Introduction to basic 2-D shapes and their properties

Learning Objectives

  • Recognise the intuitive concepts of points, straight lines, and curves.
  • Draw and make straight lines and curves.
  • Recognise the basic concepts of triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, and circles.
  • Draw and make these 2-D shapes.
  • Form 2-D shapes by combining these shapes.

Time allocation: 10 hours

🔢 1. Points, Lines, and Curves

Points

A point is a position in space. It has no size, only location.

A point is represented by a dot.

Lines

Straight Line

A straight line is the shortest path between two points.

Curved Line

A curved line changes direction smoothly without any sharp turns.

Drawing Lines

To draw straight lines, we use rulers. For curves, we can draw them freehand or use tools like compasses.
